In this activity, you will create beautiful snowflake patterns with kirigami.
Fold the paper, cut along the pattern, and when you gently open it…
You’ll see a delicate snowflake design that will make you say “Wow!”.
The magic of kirigami lies in this moment — the surprise and delight when the pattern is revealed.
For this project, we have prepared several snowflake-themed patterns.
Fold the paper in half at line ① and continue folding up to line ④.
Cut along the lines, staple the folded paper, and you’re ready to go!
If your child is elementary school age or older, they will enjoy folding the paper themselves.
About the paper:
Regular copy paper works, but after folding four times, it becomes thick and hard to cut.
I recommend using thin colored paper, which is easier to cut and suitable for all ages.
Here is a reference for common paper thickness:
・Standard origami paper: approx. 0.066–0.071mm (0.0026–0.0028 inches)
・Washi-style rough paper: approx. 0.08mm (0.0031 inches)
・Thin colored paper: approx. 0.08mm (0.0031 inches)
・Neutral copy paper: approx. 0.09mm (0.0035 inches)
Choose your favorite color and enjoy the magical moment when the snowflake unfolds before your eyes!
Note: If the paper is too thin or too thick, it may cause paper jams in the printer.
