Heart Bag (Paper Plaiting)
Heart Bag (Paper Plaiting)
This will be a heart bag, a standard activity in Montessori classes in Japan.
Print it out on a slightly thicker A4 sheet of colored construction paper.
Fold it in half at the dashed line and have your child cut it with scissors. Then weave the paper.
You can challenge yourself from about 5 years old.
Adults under 5 years old should also help.
First, cut the surrounding lines and the incised part with scissors.
Weave the first one alternately.
Then insert the second strand in the same way, alternating. At this point, you may hear a voice saying, “Oh, it’s starting to look like a heart! It’s starting to look like a heart! Let’s insert the third and fourth strands in the same way.
Two patterns of designs are available: a 3-row version and a 4-row version.
The 4-row version may be difficult to do alone unless you are at least 6 years old.
Once completed, you can make a bag-like bag by knitting the handles in three rows.
