Cute Oni Pin Punching Activity (Printable Montessori Fine Motor Work)

This activity invites children to enjoy a traditional Montessori-style pin punching exercise using a pushpin or stylus to carefully poke along dotted lines and cut out shapes with precision.

For this printable, we’ve designed an adorable version of “Oni”—a mythical creature from Japanese folklore, often featured in the seasonal event called “Setsubun.” In Japan, Setsubun is celebrated in February, when families symbolically drive away bad luck by throwing beans at the Oni. While Oni are traditionally seen as scary figures, this version is round, gentle-looking, and child-friendly—perfect for young learners.

Children will enjoy punching out not only the outer silhouette but also small interior features, like the Oni’s open mouth. After completing the punching work, they can glue the cut-out parts together to make a fun craft.
