This activity allows children to sort animals into five groups of vertebrates: mammals, fish, birds, reptiles, and amphibians. For children who love animals, this becomes a fun and natural Montessori-inspired learning experience.
Each card is designed as a front-and-back pair. The group “name cards” have brief descriptions on the back, helping adults explain the characteristics clearly to children.
Once the explanation is complete, place the name cards in a row and let the child classify the animal cards underneath. If the child seems unsure, start by placing one animal under each group as an example. Having a visual guide helps the child think independently from the second card onward.
When all cards are placed, flip them over to check the answers! With icons and colors indicating each group, it’s easy for children to spot mistakes and deepen their understanding naturally.
Print the data on slightly thicker A4 paper.
For long-term use, we recommend laminating the cards.
This product includes both Japanese and English versions.
Enjoy this classification activity that sparks children’s curiosity and desire to learn more!
